Weekly Update - 11th December 2017
Kaikōura’s Summer weather has been a treat this past week, making for some epic sea conditions and amazing clear sightings of marine life out on the water. It seems like Tiaki and Tutu, two of our favourite whales to see out in the Canyon, have been getting reacquainted since they’ve reunited, as this marks the second week in a row that we’ve seen catching a breather up on the surface and diving down to feed together.
Weekly Update - 27th November 2017
There has been a recent familiar fluke that we’ve been seeing on our tours, so much so that we have named him to help identify him to our Sea Crew and passengers. Zeus was named due to the white scar that runs along his back which resembles the Greek God Zeus’ lightning bolt, his signature weapon.
Weekly Update - 20th November 2017
This week Kaikōura really lived up to its reputation of being a marine mecca, with a wide variety of marine mammals sighted in abundance on our tours! We saw Sperm Whales (including semi-resident Spotty Tail), Humpback Whales, Pilot Whales, Orca, Dusky Dolphins, Hectors Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins and even a Blue Shark!
Weekly Update - 13th November 2017
Orca made an appearance over the weekend and are kicking off our Summer season early! We spotted five of them Saturday afternoon, making for some serious exciting tours for not only our passengers but also our Sea Crew!
Weekly Update - 6th November 2017
This week we continued to see transient Sperm Whales on our tours, the sheer size of them was very impressive! They tend to be on the larger side of the Sperm Whale size spectrum, reaching up to 20 metres – much longer than our whale watching vessels!

The sunshine over the past week here in Kaikōura can’t be beat! It’s feeling more and more like Summer with this kind of heat, which has also provided some amazing sea conditions out on the water in pursuit of the Giant Sperm Whales.
Whale Watching in September 2017
September is a beautiful time of the year to visit Kaikōura. With the Spring blossoms, long days (courtesy of daylight savings) and the warm weather rolling in for Summer, it’s the perfect time to stop by before all the tourists turn up over the New Year. If you’re visiting Kaikōura with whale watching in mind, then we’ve also had some great sightings!
Weekly Update - 2nd October 2017
This week’s whale watching trips spotted Sperm Whales and Humpback Whales as well as those marine mammals that we consider to be the cherry on top for our tours – Dusky Dolphins, Hectors Dolphins and NZ Fur Seals.
Weekly Update - 25th September 2017
We hope you all enjoyed the sunny weather and bluebird days in Kaikōura’s over the weekend. Daylight savings has just begun and we’re looking forward to seeing plenty more epic sunrises and enjoying the longer, warmers days that Summer has to offer. Our tours this week spotted all our favourite marine mammals, including a special guest appearance by semi-residential Sperm Whale Holy Moly.

Kaikōura is a small, picturesque coastal town located on the East Coast of New Zealand’s South Island. The landscapes and seascapes which surround the town create some serious Instagram #FeedGoals. Throw in a few whales and dolphins into the mix and your travel snaps will be the envy of all your friends back home.
