Weekly Update - 28th August 2017

This week’s weather has been absolutely spectacular! We’ve had some amazing calm days out on the ocean and clear blue skies to match it. Our tours were able to sight semi-residential Sperm Whale Aoraki feeding in the Hikurangi Trench this week, as well as multiple other transient Sperm Whales passing through our region. On Thursday we had four Orca pay us a visit early!

Even though we’re still in the last month of Winter, it’s starting to feel more and more like Spring! It was a cracker weekend here in Kaikōura with amazing sea conditions and picture perfect days to go along with it.

Kaikōura truly is a marine mecca. We have had the opportunity over the last week is see sperm whales, a pod of orca passing through along with a humpback whale which seems to enjoy hanging around Kaikōura at the moment. We were also able to see dusky, common & Hector’s dolphins as well as NZ fur seals and various marine birds.
