Something worth celebrating...
Restoration work on the Kaikoura marina begun 10 months ago, and over the weekend we celebrated being able to now use berth 3 & 4. We have been using our trailer unit & the public jetty for some time now so to be able to pull up into our berths is quite an exciting feat.
Weekly Update - 10th October 2017
We certainly have had a lot of rain over the last few days, it was such a treat to wake up this morning and see the clouds parted and see the Kaikōura ranges. There is some icky weather forecast for mid-week and then it is looking like some sunshine on the way which will be a wonderful way to end the school holidays.
Whale Watching in September 2017
September is a beautiful time of the year to visit Kaikōura. With the Spring blossoms, long days (courtesy of daylight savings) and the warm weather rolling in for Summer, it’s the perfect time to stop by before all the tourists turn up over the New Year. If you’re visiting Kaikōura with whale watching in mind, then we’ve also had some great sightings!

This week’s whale watching trips spotted Sperm Whales and Humpback Whales as well as those marine mammals that we consider to be the cherry on top for our tours – Dusky Dolphins, Hectors Dolphins and NZ Fur Seals.

We hope you all enjoyed the sunny weather and bluebird days in Kaikōura’s over the weekend. Daylight savings has just begun and we’re looking forward to seeing plenty more epic sunrises and enjoying the longer, warmers days that Summer has to offer. Our tours this week spotted all our favourite marine mammals, including a special guest appearance by semi-residential Sperm Whale Holy Moly.

Kaikōura is a small, picturesque coastal town located on the East Coast of New Zealand’s South Island. The landscapes and seascapes which surround the town create some serious Instagram #FeedGoals. Throw in a few whales and dolphins into the mix and your travel snaps will be the envy of all your friends back home.

Kaikōura truly is a marine mecca. This week we’ve had some successful days out on the water, sighting Beaked Whales, Humpback Whales as well as the Mighty Sperm Whale!

This week has brought with it a fresh dosing of snow on the Kaikōura Ranges. So if you’re making your way to Kaikōura, be sure to rug up and bring your camera to capture some epic snaps of Mt. Fyffe before the last of Winters snow finally wears off.

It is Māori language week in Aotearoa (New Zealand) from the 11th – 17th September 2017.
With this in mind we thought we would introduce you to some of the common Māori words you would hear around our booking office and out at sea when visiting Whale Watch Kaikōura.
