Double rainbow start to the day!

Tuesday 7th February 2012

Passengers and crew were greeted with a double rainbow this morning as they were about to head out on their tour! Absolutely stunning... We have been viewing 3-4 sperm whales today feeding around 6 miles offshore. It has been a still day wind wise with a slight roll coming down from the north. As with all our tours when time is available we do our best to view other marine life such as dolphins, seals and marine birds. Today’s picture is of the double rainbow taken in South Bay, which is where our boats depart from. Hope all our Kiwi readers had a great long weekend!

Another visiting species today!

Friday 3rd February 2012

We managed to sail for 3 rounds of tours today with our last round (3.30pm & 4pm tours) being cancelled due to the NE wind being quite strong offshore. We located 1 sperm whale feeding 9 miles offshore. On the 12.45pm tour they were fortunate enough to view orca on their way out to view the sperm whale. As you can tell in today's picture even the land staff get excited when we have other species of marine life visit close inshore... unfortunately we were unable to see the orca once we got over there but was a good chance to get a team photo... Have a great long weekend all, take care on the roads!

Been a great day!

Thursday 2nd February 2012

We have had a fantastic day here today with a sperm whale being located at 9 miles this morning and as the day has progressed he has moved further in to around 4 miles offshore. Sea conditions have improved as the day has gone on. Passengers on our mid-morning tours were in for a very special treat... They were able to view the largest creature in the world - the blue whale, this is not a common sighting for us so even the crew were excited, for some of them it was their first time seeing a blue whale too! Todays picture is of a blue whale (animated), they can grow up to 33m in length and weigh up to 190 tonne - massive!

Where has summer gone?

Wednesday 1st February 2012

Wow crazy that we are in to February already, January just flew by. We managed to get our first couple of rounds of tours out today - we located 2 sperm whales feeding 12 miles offshore before the forecast Southerly wind hit. Our afternoon tours have been cancelled due to this strong wind, hoping it blows through overnight and we have some summer weather back tomorrow... Todays picture was taken when I arrived at work this morning (the calm before the storm it seems).

Been a windy day

Monday 30th January 2012

Our first round of tours managed to sail this morning locating a whale 9 miles offshore. A fresh NE breeze started to blow quite early making for jobbly conditions offshore, as the wind strength increased the conditions became worse making for our afternoon tours being cancelled. Forecast is looking good for tomorrow - fingers crossed. Todays picture is a sunset picture I managed to capture over the weekend, we really have been blessed with some beautiful sunsets lately!
